Beyrouk was born in Atar, northern Mauritania. A journalist for many years, he founded Mauritania's first independent newspaper and chaired the first independent press association. An essential voice of his country's literature, Beyrouk has published the novels Le Tambour des larmes (Elyzad, 2015, Prix Kourouma, Prix du Roman Métis des Lycéens), Je suis seul (Elyzad, 2018, Prix Ahmed Baba de la littérature africaine). In 2021, Parias (Sabine Wespieser) and Le silence des horizons (Elyzad, finalist of the IMA Arabic Literature Prize) were published.
