In Koli Jean Bofane was born on October 24, 1954 in Mbandaka (DRC). He left his country in 1960 following the unrest related to independence, settled in Belgium and then in France, where he currently resides. In 1996, he published Pourquoi le lion n'est plus le roi des animaux, an illustrated tale on the theme of dictatorship, awarded the Prix de la Critique of the French Community of Belgium in 1997. He then published BiBi and the Ducks, dealing with immigration. Portraits on the spot not devoid of humor, his fables for children are expressed in a rich and musical language, while pursuing an educational and humanist goal. His first novel, Mathématiques congolaises, plunges us into the heart of a sprawling African city where the population is manipulated, according to the cynicism and fantasies of those who exercise their powers. His works have been translated in the USA, Germany, Brazil, Korea and Slovenia. Writing is now the main part of his activity and he also leads writing workshops in schools.
